Ordering Birds

HOW  TO  PLACE  AN  ORDER  FOR YOUR  PLANET  BROTHERS  PIGEONS

For years, fanciers have often said they wanted to purchase our birds, but did not have the money to do so.
In the past, many people who bought our birds, exaggerated the figure that they actually paid for them.

The reasons behind this is simple:

•    If they say they paid a lot of money for our birds , they themselves can charge a much higher fee for the offspring.
•    The value of their investment is protected by inflating the price.
•    It stops the average fancier coming to us to purchase birds.

However, the reality is such that, good pigeons are not as expensive as you may have been led to believe.

We have a certain way of doing things at our lofts, and for the past 40 years it has stood the test of time.

1.    We rarely sell babies from the nest , normally they are six months old.
2.    For every 8 birds we breed, only 2 or 3 will pass the grade and be sold.
3.    Your investment is protected by the limited number of pigeons we sell.
4.    We do not rely on selling pigeons to provide us with a income.
5.    Our reputation for breeding winners, for others, is second to none.

Quality always comes before quantity, you only need to buy one or two top quality pigeons to get the right results

After all, What is the cost of a bad pigeon

PRICING  STRUCTURE

At Planet Lofts we do not have a specific pricing structure.
The birds are priced depending on the parentage, availability and importance.
To explain this we will list the points and explain them:

Parentage: As expected the initial price for a bird will be based upon the parents. The closer the offspring is to one of the Champions or Principle Stock pigeons then generally it will be more expensive.

Availability: With demand, certain pairings and certain birds will always carry a premium because of the limited numbers that we sell. This is often the case with the cream of the loft and older birds that are coming to the end of their breeding cycle.

Importance: When both of the above are combined we have the importance of a certain breeding couple. Some may be young pigeons, yet in a very short period of time they start to produce outstanding offspring. The importance of these birds as future breeders causes the price to rise.

Once all the above are qualified, we then come to the most important aspect of pricing and that is: Individual qualities. This is by far the most critical point when we price a particular bird. The individual characteristics take president over everything else.

We stated earlier that we do not like selling birds from the nest and there is a good reason for that. We believe that it is impossible to judge a baby at this age. Through the process of elimination 10% of our babies will not make 4 weeks old.

Every bird breeds bad offspring, and these have to be culled early.

Over the next 6 months the pigeons are constantly being graded, selected and culled. At the end of this process, the birds we choose to sell, are representative of our loft.

For this reason it does not follow that birds from the same pairing get sold for the same money, in fact this is not the way we do it at Planet Lofts.

With this website you will learn that we believe pedigree is not everything, and even the best birds breed rubbish.

PRICING  GUIDELINES  AND   SECURING  AN  ORDER

When the hen first lays her egg, they are inspected for size and faults. At this point in time a pair may be parted because it is not felt that the hen is ready. The eggs tell you a lot about the health and constitution, if it is not right at this stage then it is pointless letting that pair rear their young.

After hatching, the first 10 days are critical and this is where most of our expertise comes into play.

We will spend most of our time in the lofts watching and observing the development of the youngsters.

Weak and undeveloped babies are culled immediately and the results documented for future reference. This is invaluable and most fanciers leave the findings to memory, only to be forgotten by the time they pair again the following year.

At Planet Lofts we have a fault system of marking, after a couple of faults they are removed from the stock loft, irrespective of how they are bred.

Once the babies are weaned they are then graded using our tried and tested system. Coloured rings are placed on the birds to identify the potential price bracket. In the next 6 months these are monitored, changed and altered depending on their development. All the data is collected on file for future reference. Using this method, we end up with the following example:
